You don’t need a scuba certification to dive in Cancun. Our Discovery Dive is designed specifically for first-timers — no experience required, no prior training needed. In one morning you’ll go from complete beginner to diving the MUSA underwater museum and a natural coral reef, guided every step of the way by a certified instructor.

What is a Discovery Dive?

A Discovery Dive is an introductory scuba experience for people who have never dived before. You learn the basics in a pool, then head out on the boat for two real open water dives — one at MUSA and one on a coral reef. No certification needed, no previous experience required.

It’s the most popular way to try scuba diving in Cancun for a reason — by the end of the morning you’ll have two real dives under your belt and a clear idea of whether you want to take it further with a full certification course.

How the Day Works

The experience runs from 8:00 AM to approximately 1:30 PM. Here’s what to expect:

Pool Training (approx. 2 hours) Before getting on the boat you’ll spend time in the pool with your instructor learning the fundamentals — how to breathe underwater, how to clear your mask, how to signal to your instructor, and what to do if you feel uncomfortable. There’s no rush. You move at your own pace and only head out on the boat when you feel ready.

Dive 1 — MUSA Underwater Museum Your first open water dive takes you to MUSA, the famous underwater sculpture museum between Cancun and Isla Mujeres. You’ll dive alongside more than 400 life-size sculptures at 10 meters (30 feet) depth, surrounded by coral, reef fish, sea turtles, and marine life that has made the statues home.

Dive 2 — Coral Reef Your second dive takes you to a natural coral reef where you’ll see a different side of Cancun’s underwater world — coral formations, tropical fish, and if you’re lucky, a sea turtle or two.
