Cenote Diving in Cancun — Private Cavern Dives at Dos Ojos

The Yucatan Peninsula sits on top of one of the largest underground river systems in the world. Cenotes — natural sinkholes filled with crystal clear freshwater — are the only places on earth where you can dive through this hidden network of caves and caverns. It’s a completely different experience from ocean diving and one of the most unique dives you’ll do anywhere.

We run private cenote diving trips to Dos Ojos, one of the most famous dive sites in the Yucatan, approximately 1.5 hours from Cancun.

Why Private Only

We only operate cenote trips on a private basis — a minimum of 3 divers per trip. This is a deliberate choice. Cenotes are delicate environments and the experience is significantly better without crowds. Your group gets the site to yourselves, your guide’s full attention, and the freedom to move at your own pace through one of the most spectacular dive environments in the world.

Minimum trip price is $720 USD for up to 3 divers.

The Dive — Dos Ojos Cavern

Dos Ojos (Spanish for “two eyes”) is named after its two main cavern openings connected by an underwater passage. We dive the cavern zone — the area near the entrance where natural light filters through — which means no cave certification is required. The visibility in Dos Ojos is extraordinary, often exceeding 100 meters, and the light effects created by the sun filtering through the water are unlike anything you’ll see on a reef.

  • Depth: Average 45 feet (14 meters)
  • Dive time: Approximately 40 minutes per dive
  • Visibility: Exceptional — often 100 meters or more
  • Environment: Freshwater cavern with natural light

What to Expect on the Day

We pick you up directly from your hotel in Cancun. The drive to Dos Ojos takes approximately 1.5 hours — your guide will brief you on the dive during the journey. Once at the cenote you’ll gear up and enter the water for your dives in the cavern zone. After diving, lunch is included before the drive back to Cancun.

Do I Need a Special Certification?

Open water certification is required. No cave certification is needed — we dive the cavern zone only, where natural light is always visible. Cave diving (going deeper into the system beyond natural light) requires additional cave certifications and is a different type of trip entirely.

Can We Visit a Different Cenote?

Dos Ojos is our primary site. Other cenotes in the area can be arranged, but additional fees may apply. Contact us to discuss options if you have a specific cenote in mind.
