Cancun Wreck & Reef Dive — Two Dives, Two Completely Different Worlds

Cancun has some of the best wreck diving in the Mexican Caribbean. On this trip you do two dives in one afternoon — one on a sunken warship and one on a natural coral reef — giving you a complete picture of what’s underwater off the coast of Cancun.

The Wrecks — C55 & C58

We dive the C55 and C58, two decommissioned Mexican Navy vessels deliberately sunk to create artificial reefs off the coast of Cancun. Which wreck we dive depends on conditions on the day — both sit at approximately 84 feet (25 meters) and both are covered in coral and marine life after years on the ocean floor.

These are not beginner dives. The depth requires Advanced Open Water certification or equivalent.

What You’ll See

The wrecks have become thriving reef ecosystems. On a typical dive expect to see:

  • Sea turtles resting on and around the wreck structure
  • Barracudas patrolling the open water above the ship
  • Large groupers sheltering inside the wreck
  • Moray eels tucked into the hull
  • Colorful reef fish throughout
  • Spotted eagle rays — most commonly seen during winter months

The Reef Dive

After the wreck you’ll do a second dive on one of the natural reefs in the area — Herradura, Gampin, or Aristos depending on conditions. These reefs sit at approximately 65 feet (20 meters) and offer a completely different environment from the wreck — coral formations, tropical fish, and open reef landscape.
